MyPC Backup for Windows 8

Windows 8 Backup Software: MyPC Backup

Looking for the right backup software for my Windows 8 Consumer Preview netbook I ran into MyPC Backup. The website doesn’t state that Windows 8 is supported, but like other Windows 7 applications, MyPC Backup installed without any problem. During the setup Windows will ask you to install the .Net Framework 3.5. Select ‘Download and Install this Feature’ to continue the setup.

When the setup is completed you’ll find the application in the Start screen. At first launch of MyPC Backup a screen will pop-up that will show you the different backup-options. By default MyPC will backup your Documents, Desktop and Pictures. If you (like me) have the habit to put a lot of files on the desktop you might want to select advanced options and select the different folders you want to backup.

If you chose for a trial account the backup options are quite limited, you’ll find that it won’t backup all your files even if you selected the folder. In the settings menu I found that the maximum file size is limited to 2MB when you have a trial account. I’ll be testing this application in several scenario’s with <2MB doc/pdf/txt files.

My first impression is positive, the interface looks slick, the website that contains all your settings/files also looks good. I don’t really like the fact that you’re asked to upgrade every time you want to change something or reach some kind of limit, and the site shows you an annoying pop-up when you want to close the website, but I guess that’s the whole idea of a trial.
